Breaking: Vic might consider a ban on plastic bags

The Victorian Environment Minister Lily D’Ambrosio announced last week that Victoria might consider a ban on light-weight plastic bags, saying: "We believe that a national ban is the most effective way to address the issue but we have not ruled out going it alone."

We welcome this statement and encourage the minister to talk to her labor colleagues in other states, who are either legislating a ban (QLD) or are keen to do so (WA).

NSW premier Glady Berejiklian, also last week, made it clear that she doesn’t currently support a plastic bag ban. Pressure will be increasing on NSW, once all other states have an effective bag ban in place, something which is passionately supported in the community.
