NSW non-existent plastic pollution policy shame

The failure of NSW to have a policy to reduce plastic pollution and waste will be under the spotlight at today’s Parliamentary hearing into the Plastics Reduction Bill.

The Boomerang Alliance and many other stakeholders will be giving evidence, and we will be calling for urgent action on this major environmental problem killing and injuring millions of animals and contaminating our food chain. It’s appalling that almost every other state has enacted legislation or has concrete plans to do so – and NSW has done nothing.

NSW can take immediate action to ban certain single-use plastic items like South Australia, the ACT and Queensland (with WA and Vic soon to follow) and implement plans to stop plastic releases to the environment and being dumped in landfills.

The Boomerang Alliance will be giving evidence today at 9.15am in the Macquarie Room.

Our submission to the Inquiry is here.
