Boomerang Alliance and our partners have been out and about on the Gold & Sunshine Coasts and Bribie Island over the summer to promote Cash for Containers in Queensland. We have partnered with Wildlife Queensland, the Surfrider Foundation, Noosa Biosphere Association, Gecko (Gold Coast and Hinterland Environment Council) and the Sunshine Coast Environment Council - and many, many community activists, to make C4C a big issue to put pressure on state and local politicians from all parties to support the program.
The remit was simple. It's summer, we are at the beach, there's too much litter and not enough recycling and we want C4C scheme in Queensland.
And the community responded! Local environment groups, Scouts and Guides and church groups have all joined in to make a big splash. See our photo wall below for the pictures. On the Sunshine Coast, the local daily newspaper, the Sunshine Coast Daily, followed our activities with their own Readers poll that returned a 96% support for C4C! Its made the politicians take note and we are hopeful that we can get bi-partisan suppport - like NSW for C4C.
We are also running an on-line petition for Queensland - so if you haven’t joined in and you live in Queensland please sign this and make a difference
Take your own selfies - include the cash for containers slogan and post to your network with the hashtag #CashForContainers. It's a good way to spread the word.
The Livingstone Shire, Gold Coast and Bribie Island communities have made a difference. Why not join them today?
Thank you again for your support.
Toby Hutcheon, Kellie Lindsay and Laura Wells
