Victoria is the last mainland state without a commitment to introduce a container deposit system (CDS). Other states have got on board because they know it's the only way to clean up their parks, beaches, waterways and streets; make an important contribution to reducing marine plastic pollution; create new jobs and income for charities. According to the National Litter Index, Victoria has significantly higher volumes of litter than the national average - it has no excuses. Beverage containers are over 40% of the volume of litter and make up over 30% of marine plastic pollution in Australia.
The Boomerang Alliance is ready to join with you and provide resources to the Victorian campaign. You are invited to join us for a Cash for Containers Campaign Workshop on Saturday 25 February. We are keen to gather enthusiastic CDS supporters together for a briefing and shared development of a plan of action and apply the lessons from our campaigns in NSW and Queensland.
Everyone who joins in the Planning Day will receive a Cash for Containers Campaign Toolkit including a campaign t-shirt.
Our agenda will include:
* update on CDS models and NSW experience
* the Victorian case and government, local council positions
* tactics and lobbying - lessons from NSW and Queensland
* what you can do in your area (local campaign plans)
* working together
